The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Oman has appointed multi-disciplinary consulting firm Meridian Engineering Consultancy (MEC) to design and supervise the construction of a superyacht marina for the Khor Grama development project.
The firm will conduct a study and provide designs for a marina, situated 22 kilometres east of Sur in Ash Sharqiyah South, that operates at a capacity of 75 berths for yachts and a further 20 berths for excursion boats. Elsewhere, the marina plans to feature a fishermen’s bay, breakwaters, if necessary, security facilities and a water entertainment sports area.

Included in the contract is dredging a channel and marina basin to enhance safety and accessibility, and levelling of 300,000 square meters of land, as well as ancillary vessel services and fuel pump facilities.
The project plans to turn into a marine-tourism hub, for which the masterplan and vision were penned by Italian group Giò Forma and Middle Eastern firm, F&M. Khor Grama is one of the largest lagoons in the Niyabat of Ras Al Had in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The bidding process was announced in September 2024, with 23 consultancy firms involved.
According to the Superyacht Times Gulf Report 2024, there are at least nine owners with superyachts over 30 meters in length.
