Foreign Yachts Now Able to Move Between Abu Dhabi and Dubai Freely

In a move bridging two of the Gulf’s most established yacht markets, foreign-flagged vessels will be able to cruise between Abu Dhabi and Dubai restriction-free.

The consolidated protocol, which goes into effect beginning January 2026, allows for a single sailing permit to be recognized by both Emirates, using an Inquiry System Application Programming Interface (API) to obtain data for vessel, crew, and passengers, and avoid duplicate procedures for vessels roaming between countries.

This strategic step was facilitated by multiple entities, including Abu Dhabi Maritime and the Dubai Maritime Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. Other parties comprise the National Guard, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and Dubai Customs.

“Dubai is proud to share its successful experience in facilitating yacht visits. We are fully committed to supporting this unified approach, which will undoubtedly strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading world-class maritime destination,” said Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority.

“This initiative reflects our shared commitment to simplifying maritime mobility and enhancing our emirates’ competitiveness as global yachting hubs. We are making it easier than ever for visitors to enjoy our waters,” added Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group.
