According to new figures shared by the Dubai Maritime Authority, the number of vessels registered with the government entity now totals 8,415, with 14,000 active companies operating in Dubai’s leisure marine industry.
In a breakdown of the figure, pleasure boats are the dominant category, making up 3,269 vessels, while water sport vessels trail behind at 2,377, and tourism vessels account for 1,063 craft.
The Authority says these vessels are supported by the 4,214 in 20 marinas. A set of facilities, including Dubai Marina, Dubai Creek and Dubai Harbour, cater to floating restaurants, with 87 vessels registered with the DMA. Floating restaurants operate at a capacity for a maximum of 9600 guests.
Furthermore, the local industry welcomed visitors from 116 nationalities, with British participants holding the lion’s share.
The updated figures reflect the growing appetite for leisure marine activities in Dubai, the DMA states.
