Egypt has pledged to strengthen its efforts to establish itself as a yachting hotspot.
Taking to the Monaco Yacht Show stage, the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) has presented a five-year plan, with a target to double the number of yacht visits to the country.
Collaborating with a number of experts, from yacht associations, brokerage houses, and marina operators, the Authority said it plans to measure data on yacht arrivals, repeat visitors, charter movement, and an owner’s length of stay.
“Egypt is somewhere you sail to, not somewhere you sail through. From the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, and inland to a civilisation that goes back five thousand years alongside the many layers of history and culture that have shaped Egypt over the centuries,” said Dr. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority.

“Yachting adds another dimension to that experience, connecting our coastlines with a much broader cultural and tourism proposition. Our role is to take what Egypt is building to the international market and turn it into demand.”
In recent months, different private and public stakeholders in Egypt have set their sights on building the Red Sea as an attractive cruising destination through a number of infrastructure and regulatory developments.

Also at the Monaco Yacht Show, real estate developer Tatweer Misr has signed an agreement with international operator IGY Marinas to oversee the management of the IL Monte Galala Marina in Ain Sokhna. The facility will offer 150 berths for vessels up to 80 meters in length.
